Ask the Cheesemonger

Question:
I am pregnant and understand I can only have pasterized cheese. I ordered today from your Coral Springs location the Greek salad. I asked the girl specifically over the phone to see if the feta was pasterized. She said by law all cheeses come into the US must be pasterized. I just read your answer to the pregnant woman's question, and now fear that I was given unpasterized cheese. Can you please confirm that the feta used in the salad was pasterized?

Answer:
Yes, the cheese is the feta cheese is pasturized. All fresh cheese which are sold in the US must be pasturized. Feta is a fresh cheese. There are some raw milk cheeses sold in the US but they are aged more than 60 days which has been deemed to be safe. I hope this answers your questions.
